Moving towards more mature closed-loop supply chain management
An increasing number of countries, including the Netherlands, is focusing on the development of a circular economy. For that reason, closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) management is receiving increasing attention in both science and practice. At the same time, numerous studies claim that a transition towards CLSC management could be hindered by the effects of deep uncertainty and dynamic complexity. This claim formed an important trigger for the conceptualization and empirical study of how these two concepts affect decision-making on CLSC management, and how decision makers could better deal with this transition challenge. In order to answer these two questions, a (capability maturity) methodology has been developed, and applied in two casestudies in the domain ‘closed-loop timber construction’. In both cases, multiple decision makers struggle to understand and deal with deep uncertainty and dynamic complexity. Simultaneously, all decision makers developed capabilities to better deal with these concepts, at least in the case study environment. In short, the methodology can support decision makers in obtaining more mature CLSC
